Community Kids Pre-School Bruton

Here at Community Kids we offer a range of opportunities for all children to explore, develop and prepare for School. We do this through lots of play incorporated with child and adult led activities.

All children have access to all toys and equipment in the building. Being different ages we ensure different age appropriate activities and help are provided. For the 2 year olds we are able to do nappies, aid them in toilet training, alongside parents and if they need a little sleep, create a cozy little area for them to rest.

The 3 year olds, being the middle age of the preschool, are able to mix with both the younger and older ages. This means they have a real variety in groups to play with, friends to make and activities they can join in with.

For the 4 year olds, children who will soon go to school ‘Rising 4’s’, We focus on those all important hand and finger muscles by doing ‘Pre school magic movements’ where they have activities to strengthen their hands and finger’s including exercises for gross and fine motor skills. We use play dough with dough disco, pushing, pulling and poking. We have busy boards in the outside area with door handles, bolts, padlocks, light switches and zips, these all help to increase our muscles and assist us with day to day things. Dressing and undressing is also a great way to test the finger muscles.
We are located next to Bruton Primary School and have fantastic links with them and the reception teachers.
We use the school field nearly every day to exercise and use the climbing frames. This helps the children become familiar and comfortable in the school environment supporting their transitions.

We have a pre school pet tortoise called Dylan, the children learn how to care for him, bath him, what to feed him and what not to feed him. This gives them the life skills for looking after pets and how we treat animals.
As an extra addition we currently offer hot meals for the children which are supplied by Sexeys school just up the road, you can also supply a packed lunch if you prefer.

We also have a Breakfast club and Afterschool club for children aged 2-11. We collect them from Bruton primary school and bring them back to Community Kids, or in the summer term if the weather is nice we stay on the school field to let them run after a busy day.

Most importantly we pride ourselves on enthusiastic and caring staff who offer a welcoming, safe and friendly setting for all children and families. Our children are happy, busy, and stimulated. They love being here and come racing in through the door!

A Day in the Life of Community Kids Preschool Children

9.00-9.15 Pre-school circle time /strong>

We sing our good morning song to greet all the children in. Then we count to see how many children and adults we have. After this we have a quick discussion about what we may be up to for the day.

9.15-10.15 Craft activity and free choice

Tuff trays will be set up for children to play and explore inside and outside. Crafts will be linked to a theme and children’s interest with the purpose of children experiencing different media.

10.15-10.30 Tidy up time

The children hear the little bell and aided by a song all help tidy up.

10.30-10.45 snack

We offer the children a choice of fruit, vegetables, slice of toast or something similar. To wash it all down they can have a cup of milk or water.

10.45-11.00 Group time (Books, show and tell)

To help our tummies digest the children gather again with items they have brought in to share for show and tell. Each week is a different theme and the children show everyone what they have found.

11.00-11.30 Outside play/walk

Being in the lovely countryside town of Bruton we have the ability to go visit the ducks or explore the woods. Sometimes a simple tuff tray activity outside of water, sand, cars and ramps is just as exciting.

11.30-12.00 Listening tape/story

Before lunch time we have a short calm down time. The children enjoy finding their own space to lie down in and listen to a story.

12.00-12.30 Lunch

Children sit at tables to enjoy their lunch in a social environment. We support them in independently opening their lunch boxes and food wrappers.

12.30-1.00 Puzzles/Games/Alphablocks/Numberblocks

Time for the children to let their food go down, socialise and be stimulated whilst the room is set up.

1.00-3.00 Free choice, table top activities and outside play

There is an opportunity for physical activity outside and a mixture of number, shapes, small world play etc inside. We may also go on a walk to the ducks or through town.

3.00-3.30 Music/rhymes and preparing for home time

They really enjoy this time for interacting with friends and expressing themselves through rhyme time, sticky kids and independent singing.

3.30-4.00 Goodbye time

We say goodbye to friends going home, whilst Pre-schoolers who stay on for After school club will have a mixture of healthy snacks before the older children arrive.

This day is something we repeat each day, giving the children a clear routine to follow. During each area we ensure age appropriate activities or guidance is given to allow the children to express themselves freely and develop in their own unique ways.
