Here at Community Kids we offer a range of opportunities for all children to explore, develop and prepare for School. We do this through lots of play incorporated with child and adult led activities. We have fantastic links with Bruton Primary School and the reception teachers.
We use the school field nearly every day to exercise and use the climbing frames.
This helps the children become familiar and comfortable in the school environment supporting their transitions.
Caterpillars Room (2–3 Years)-
Located next door to the Primary School
Our Caterpillars Room offers a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for children aged 2–3 years as they begin to explore the world around them. Through play-based learning and gentle routines, children are supported to develop independence, communication skills, and confidence at their own pace.
Educators provide rich sensory experiences, creative play, and opportunities for social interaction that foster curiosity and emotional wellbeing, as well as gentle, supportive toilet learning tailored to each child’s individual development. Three mornings a week, children from the Caterpillars and Butterflies Rooms come together for Forest School sessions, encouraging a love of nature while supporting collaboration and early problem-solving skills in an outdoor setting.
Butterflies Room (3–4 Years)-
Located on Bruton Primary school grounds, our Butterflies Room provides a nurturing, engaging environment where children aged 3–4 years can learn, grow, and gain confidence through play.
Designed to support curiosity and independence, the room offers a balance of structured learning and child-led experiences that promote early literacy, numeracy, creativity, and social skills. Three mornings a week, children from the Butterflies and Caterpillar Rooms come together for Forest School sessions, where they explore nature, build resilience, and develop teamwork and problem-solving skills in an outdoor learning environment.
With caring educators and age-appropriate resources, the Butterflies Room supports children’s wellbeing while helping them
build strong foundations for their next stage of learning.
We have a pre school pet tortoise called Dylan, the children learn how to care for him, bath him, what to feed him and what not to feed him. This gives them the life skills for looking after pets and how we treat animals.
As an optional extra we currently offer hot meals for the children which are supplied by Bruton Primary school, you can also supply a packed lunch if you prefer.
We also have a Breakfast club and Afterschool club for children aged 2-11. We have a Reception and year 1 room and a KS2 room, or in the summer term if the weather is nice we stay on the school field to let them run after a busy day.
Most importantly we pride ourselves on enthusiastic and caring staff who offer a welcoming, safe and friendly setting for all children and families. Our children are happy, busy, and stimulated. They love being here and come racing in through the
door!
Before lunch time we have a short calm down time. The children enjoy finding their own space to lie down in and listen to a story.
Children sit at tables to enjoy their lunch in a social environment. We support them in independently opening their lunch boxes and food wrappers.
Time for the children to let their food go down, socialise and be stimulated whilst the room is set up.
There is an opportunity for physical activity outside and a mixture of number, shapes, small world play etc inside. We may also go on a walk to the ducks or through town.
They really enjoy this time for interacting with friends and expressing themselves through rhyme time, sticky kids and independent singing.
We say goodbye to friends going home, whilst Pre-schoolers who stay on for After school club will have a mixture of healthy snacks before the older children arrive.
This day is something we repeat each day, giving the children a clear routine to follow. During each area we ensure age appropriate activities or guidance is given to allow the children to express themselves freely and develop in their own unique ways.
